THIS is a typical Disney film with all the feel good elements. But far from being corny, it is actually an entertaining watch with family members. Mostly it’s thanks to Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson’s chemistry with young actress Madison Pettis.
Watching the two of them interact is just charming – who knew a big fella like Johnson can play an awkward giant so well – and both of them can do funny stuff very well. Throw in a pug and we have potent chemistry.
The story revolves around a self-centred quarterback named Joe. Although he has played this team sport for a long time, he is not a team player at all.
His life outside the field is equally fulfilling for him – a bachelor pad equipped with cool gadgets to impress the girls. Then one day, a surprise comes to his doorstep. It is a little girl named Peyton who claims to be his daughter (and she comes complete with proof).
The old dog now has to learn a bag of new tricks, and he does it reluctantly. But he soon gets into the game of being a father and one of the steps is that he has to take part in a ballet performance along with his daughter.
Sure the jokes here are thin, the supporting cast don’t really have much to do and the story is predictable. Nonetheless The Game Plan is good fun. – Review by MUMTAJ BEGUM
