Kung Fu Panda 2

Voice cast: Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Gary Oldman, Seth Rogan, Jackie Chan
Running time: 91 minutes

Kung Fu Panda, a.k.a the Dragon Warrior or Po (Black) is b-a-a-a-a-c-k. If your family enjoyed the first movie, you will definitely like this sequel.

The story starts off with the story of Lord Shen (Oldman), whose peacock clan brought such pleasure to Gongmen City through their invention – fireworks. Unfortunately Shen was always more interested with using fireworks for evil.

A soothsayer predicts that if Shen continues down this dark path, he will one day be defeated by a warrrior of black and white.

Shen decides to harness the dark powers of the fireworks and returns home proud of his achievements only to see horror, rather than pride, in his parents' faces. He is then exiled from his home for his dark deeds. That's when he vows to have his revenge by one day ruling China.

First, he needs all the iron in China to create his secret weapon.

Po and the gang meet and fight with Shen's underlings when they try to steal all the iron in the village. While fighting with his opponents, Po recognises a symbol on the head wolf's armour and has a flashback of his past and his mother.

Going to his father, a goose, Po tries to find out the truth – where he is really from. It is then that his father tells Po the truth – he is adopted! Yes, this was one of the hilarious parts of the movie.

Soon after, Po, Tigress, Monkey, Mantis, Viper and Crane are summoned by Master Shifu (Hoffman) and informed of the death of Master Thundering Rhino, leader of the kungfu council protecting Gongmen City.

It is up to Po and the gang to save Gongmen, as Po tries to unravel his past and find out who and where his parents are.

I didn't think this movie was as good as the first one. That said, Black as Po is hilarious especially when he tries to be serious only to have his stomach growl.

I do wish there would be more emphasis on the team and how their relationship with each other develops over time. I also wish there was more character development for the other characters.

Having said that, Po is adorable.

The movie is funny and your kids will enjoy it. - Review by S.N.
