Kit Kittredge: An American Girl

Cast: Abigail Breslin, Julia Ormond and Chris O'Donnell
Running time: 100 minutes
Distributor: Alliance Entertainment

HERE is the story of 10-year-old Kit Kittredge (Breslin) who lives under the punishing conditions of the Great Depression.

The young girl has a deep passion for writing and her dream is to see her work published in the local newspapers one day.

She resides in a boarding house in Cincinnati, Ohio, that is owned by her parents. Despite the trying circumstances, the lass remains firm with her plans to become a successful reporter.

Her ''office'' is in her tree house where she gets most of her inspiration. It is also the perfect vantage point for her to view the drama that unfolds in her neighbourhood as she busily taps away on her typewriter. The movie is generally about how everyone in the neighbourhood copes with the bad times.

Besides getting an eyeful of American vintage cars, you get to enjoy the music of that era as well.

There are 28 scene selections in the DVD. A special feature shows how Americans rushed to auditions to be cast in the movie, together with some additional scene clippings. - Review by ANTHONY THANASAYAN
