There's a new reality show and it will appeal to parents as well as kids. We're talking about Astro Ria's Dumex Chef Cilik Komplete Nutri (Astro, channel 104).

The show features 27 teams cooking nutritious and delicious dishes every week. They will be vying for cash prizes – RM20,000 for the grand prize and RM15,000 and RM10,000 respectively for the second and third place winners.

The two-person teams consist of family members (mother and child, father and child, brothers). The participants were chosen from a closed audition based on their cooking skills, camera interaction and team dynamics.

Contestants will be judged on creativity, teamwork and conformity to the Komplete Nutri plate – based on the food pyramid.

The 13-episode programme will be hosted by Dumex Dugro ambassador Vanida Imran. The judges are Chef Andri Abdul Hadi, Dumex nutritionist Nor'azah Mohd Sidi and a celebrity judge.

Dynas Mokhtar, Ako Mustapha and Maria Farida are the celebrity judges appearing on the show.

Each episode will consist of four segments:

- Finding ingredients based on questions asked;

- Preparing dishes based on a pre-determined theme;

- Chef Andri's signature recipes; and

- Again, preparing dishes based on a pre-determined theme.

At the media launch, held at Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur, Dumex and Astro Ria said that the recipes will be healthy and nutritious ones that families can try out at home. Although the show is sponsored and produced by Dumex, it won't be a hard-sell promotion as not all the recipes will have Dumex products in the ingredients.

“Dumex is interested in good nutrition and not just about our product. So, a lot of the recipes have been made in the beginning without our product because it's about education of good nutrition and we believe Dumex has a responsibility to help mothers and children understand complete nutrition.

“The reason we need this programme is because we need to continue to help Malaysian children understand the importance of good nutition. Dumex, through our product range, is committed to offering a number of products that meets the complete nutrition for children, such as Dumex Dugro. But also, importantly, we want to help mothers understand what it takes to provide good nutrition for their children. And, I think the great thing about Dumex Chef Cilik is that it combines a lot of fun and entertainment with education about nutrition,” said Toni Brendish, managing director of Danone Dumex Malaysia.

It is hoped that there will be subsequent seasons if this first one is a success.

The show premieres on Feb 13 at 10pm on Astro Ria.
